Ontario reports 3,265 new COVID cases Tuesday

The province has also reported 3,908 recoveries, 29 deaths, and 171 new hospitalizations in today's update

Public Health Ontario has reported 3,265 new cases of COVID-19 today (April 27).

Today's report includes 3,908 recoveries and 29 new deaths.

Today's deaths include four people between 40 and 59 years old, 11 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 14 people over the age of 79 years old.

The province has reported 171 new hospitalizations since yesterday, and 25 new admissions of COVID-19 patients to intensive care units.

The April 27 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:

  • 39,914 active cases, which is down from 40,586 yesterday. 
  • 2,336 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, up from 2,271 reported yesterday. 
  • There are 875 patients in intensive care units because of COVID-19 (down from 877 yesterday) and 589 COVID patients on ventilators (down from 605 reported yesterday).
  • The province reported 34,000 tests were processed yesterday resulting in a 10.2 per cent positivity rate. 
  • Another 29,264 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 13.9 million tests have been completed.
  • Of the 3,265 new cases reported today, 1,044 are from Toronto, 673 cases are from Peel, 452 are from York Region, and 61 are from Simcoe-Muskoka.
  • Today's new cases include 660 individuals aged 19 and under, 1,184 people between 20 and 39 years old, 987 people between 40 and 59 years old, 377 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 50 people aged 80 and over.

Vaccines

  • There were 94,819 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on April 26, which is up from 69,308 on April 25.
  • As of 6 p.m. on April 26, the province reported 4,791,030 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
  • In total, 362,563 people have been fully vaccinated.

Public Health Ontario has confirmed 452,126 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 404,248 recoveries and 7,964 deaths, of which 3,917 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.

The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 3,041.7 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.

Ontario's average weekly incidence rate is 192.5 cases per 100,000 people, which is down by 7.3 per cent from last week (April 11 to April 16). 

In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:

  • Algoma Public Health: 320 cases, weekly rate of 20.1 cases per 100,000 people. There are 39 known active cases, including four people who are temporarily in the region but the case is not part of the local numbers. 
  • North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 343 cases, weekly rate of 9.2 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 344 cases. There are 14 known active cases. 
  • Porcupine Health Unit: 583 cases, weekly rate of 94.7 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 580 cases. There are 113 known active cases. 
  • Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 1,895 cases, weekly rate of 34.2 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,916 cases. There are 89 known active cases. 
  • Timiskaming Health Unit: 166 cases, weekly rate of 73.4 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 170 cases. There are 31 known active cases. 
  • Northwestern Health Unit: 883 cases, weekly rate of 71.9 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 880 cases. There are 71 known active cases.
  • Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,076 cases, weekly rate of 43.3 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 3,070 cases. There are 69 known active cases.
