Public Health Ontario has reported 2,169 new cases of COVID-19 today (March 25).
Today's report includes 1,675 recoveries and 12 new deaths.
One of the deaths reported today was an individual between 40 and 59 years old, seven were between 60 and 79 years old, and four were over the age of 79. None were residents of long-term-care facilities.
The province has reported 75 new hospitalizations since yesterday, and eight new admissions of COVID-19 patients to intensive care units.
The March 26 update provided by the province's public health agency also reported the following data:
- 16,563 active cases, which is up from 16,081 yesterday
- 913 people are currently hospitalized with COVID-19 in Ontario, up from 894 reported yesterday.
- There are 359 COVID patients in intensive care units (upfrom 332 yesterday) and 215 COVID patients on ventilators (up from 212 reported yesterday)
- The province reported 53,436 tests were processed yesterday resulting in a 3.8 per cent positivity rate.
- Another 37,364 tests are still under investigation and/or being processed. To date, 12.3 million tests have been completed.
- Of the 2,380 new cases reported today, 682 are from Toronto, 397 cases are from Peel, 254 are from York Region, and 48 are from Simcoe-Muskoka
- There are 61 active outbreaks at long-term care homes, 38 at retirement homes, and 34 at hospitals.
- The new cases reported today include 476 individuals aged 19 and under, 814 people between 20 and 39 years old, 548 people between 40 and 59 years old, 276 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 55 people aged 80 and over.
Variants of concern (Ontario-wide)
- 1,494 lab-confirmed cases of the UK variant strain of COVID-19 (B.1.1.7).
- 60 cases of B.1.351 (also known as the South African variant).
- 58 cases of P.1, which is the variant strain that originated in Brazil.
- Another 16,680 cases have screened positive with a mutation detected, but the lineage for the variant strain not yet sequenced.
- According to Public Health Ontario, there are delays between specimen collection and the testing required to confirm a variant of concern. As such, the reports can change and can differ from past case counts publicly reported.
Vaccines
- There were 82,996 doses of vaccines against COVID-19 administered on March 25, which is up from 79,446 administered on March 24.
- As of 6 p.m. on March 25, the province reported 1,838,592 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 have been administered.
- In total, 306,373 people have been fully vaccinated.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 339,239 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 314,384 recoveries and 7,292 deaths, of which 3,892 were individuals living in long-term care facilities.
The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 2,275.5 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.
The weekly incidence rate in Ontario is 79.4 cases per 100,000 people, which is an increase of 21 per cent from last week (March 10-16).
In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:
- Algoma Public Health: 224 cases, rate of 195.7 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 225 cases. There are 18 known active cases. The region is in the yellow - protect zone.
- North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 285 cases, rate of 219.6 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 287 cases. There are eight known active cases. There have been two confirmed cases of the United Kingdom (B.1.1.7) variant, and 22 confirmed cases of the South African (B.1.351) variant of concern. There are 15 tests where variants have been detected but the strain is not known yet. The region is in the yellow - protect zone.
- Porcupine Health Unit: 347 cases, rate of 415.9 per 100,000 people. There are three known active cases. There have been two confirmed cases of the South African (B.1.351) variant of concern. There is one test where a variant has been detected but the strain is not known yet. The region is in the yellow- protect zone.
- Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 1,297 cases, rate of 651.7 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,303. There are 319 known active cases. There are five confirmed UK (B.1.1.7) variants of concern. There are 347 tests where variants have been detected but the strain is not known yet. The region is in the grey - lockdown zone.
- Timiskaming Health Unit: 123 cases, rate of 376.3 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 126 cases. There are 17 known active cases. There has been one confirmed case of the UK (B.1.1.7) strain and one case of the South African (B.1.351) variant of concern. There are five tests where a variant has been detected but the strain is not known yet. The region is in the red - control.
- Northwestern Health Unit: 653 cases, rate of 744.8 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 667. There are 50 known active cases. There has been one confirmed case of the UK (B.1.1.7) variant. There are five tests where variants have been detected but the strain is not known yet. The region is in the red - control zone.
- Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 2,732 cases, rate of 1,821.8 per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,739 cases. There are 259 known active cases. There are three tests where a variant has been detected but the strain is not known yet. The region is in the grey - lockdown level.
