Public Health Ontario is reporting 1,808 new COVID cases today.
The latest updates also include 1,165 recoveries and nine deaths.
The Dec. 15 updates provided by the province's public health agency and the ministry of health also reported the following data:
- There are 12,666 active cases, up from 12,032 yesterday.
- 357 people are in hospital testing positive for COVID-19.
- Among the new cases reported today are 625 unvaccinated, 39 partially vaccinated, and 1,046 fully vaccinated people. 98 cases were reported with vaccination status unknown.
- The seven-day average incidence rate by vaccination status is 19 cases per 100,000 unvaccinated people, eight cases per 100,000 partially vaccinated people, and seven cases per 100,000 fully vaccinated people.
- 154 people are in ICU due to COVID-19. Of those, 136 people are testing positive and 18 are testing negative. There are 102 people in an intensive care unit (ICU) due to COVID on a ventilator.
- 11.3 million people in Ontario (77 per cent of the population) are fully vaccinated, and five per cent of the province has one dose of COVID vaccine.
- 1.1 million people have received a booster since August 2021.
- Hospitalized cases not in the ICU include 119 unvaccinated, 11 partially vaccinated and 84 fully vaccinated individuals.
- In the ICU there are 78 unvaccinated patients, three partially vaccinated, and 30 fully vaccinated COVID cases.
- The province reported 34,726 tests were processed yesterday, resulting in a six per cent positivity rate.
- Today's new cases include 78 newborns to four-year-olds, 292 kids ages five to 11, 173 youth between 12 and 19 years old, 615 people between 20 and 39 years old, 445 people between 40 and 59 years old, 175 people between 60 and 79 years old, and 30 people over 80 years old.
Public Health Ontario has confirmed 636,920 cases of COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, and reported 614,161 recoveries and 10,093 deaths.
There have been 31,761 people hospitalized with COVID since March 2020 (up 32 over yesterday), and 6,280 patients have been admitted to intensive care units (up seven from yesterday).
The cumulative average incidence rate in the province is 4,322.8 cases per 100,000 people in Ontario.
Ontario's average seven-day incidence rate from Dec. 5 to Dec. 11 was 60.8 cases per 100,000 people, which is up by 34.2 per cent compared to the seven-day period starting Nov. 29.

Northern Ontario
In Northern Ontario, the breakdown of Public Health Ontario data is:
- Algoma Public Health: 1,525 cases, weekly rate of 151.1 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,529 cases. There are 271 known active cases. Of the eligible population five years and older, 85 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 79 per cent have both doses.
- North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit: 981 cases, weekly rate of 30.2 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 983 cases. There are 41 known active cases. Of the eligible population five years and older, 84 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 79 per cent have both doses.
- Porcupine Health Unit: 2,316 cases, weekly rate of 38.8 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 2,318 cases. There are 36 known active cases. Of the eligible population five years and older, 84 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 78 per cent have both doses.
- Public Health Sudbury and Districts: 4,339 cases, weekly rate of 139.8 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 4,402 cases. There are 311 known active cases. Of the eligible population five years and older, 85 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 80 per cent have both doses.
- Timiskaming Health Unit: 459 cases, weekly rate of 100.3 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 461. There are 48 known active cases. Of the eligible population five years and older, 82 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 77 per cent have both doses.
- Northwestern Health Unit: 1,287 cases, weekly rate of 27.1 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 1,282 cases. There are 25 known active cases. Of the eligible population five years and older, 91 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 84 per cent have both doses.
- Thunder Bay District Health Unit: 3,781 cases, weekly rate of 48.8 cases per 100,000 people. The health unit has reported 3,790 cases. There are 66 known active cases. Of the eligible population five years and older, 86 per cent of people have at least one dose of the vaccine and 80 per cent have both doses.
