(MOOSONEE, ON) – On Wednesday July 24 at approximately 4:30 pm, officers with the Moosonee Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Detachment responded to a report of two people fighting in the parking lot of a local business in Moosonee. Upon arriving at the scene, the officers attempted to arrest the offenders. While doing so, they were assaulted by a bystander who attempted to interfere with the arrest.
As a result of this altercation, police arrested three persons. Two of these persons were taken to hospital for treatment of undisclosed injuries.
As a result of this incident, the OPP notified the province’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) who has invoked its mandate.
The OPP investigation is ongoing and charges are pending.
