Voters who already know their picks for the municipal election can cast a ballot starting today.

Online voting for the Timmins municipal election runs through until Oct. 22.

City clerk Steph Palmateer said voter notification cards have been mailed out and have the instructions on how to access the online voting portal.

“It’s a two-step process so people will be given a number on their voter notification card, which they use to register. That’ll allow them to create a security question and answer a security question, once done they will be sent a pin. Once they have that pin they will have to go back in, log in and then they are able to vote using that pin that’s provided,” he explained.

On the ballot, people get to vote for mayor, their ward councillor, and a school board trustee.

If you are voting online, be sure to fill out the entire ballot.

Palmateer said after a ballot is submitted, even if you under voted, you can’t alter it.

“If you don’t select your school board trustees or you only vote for your school board trustee, you can’t go back later and then vote for council. You have to do it all,” he said.

While traditional paper ballots will be available on election day Oct. 22, the online voting option is the only advance polling this election.

City staff are available to help people with the online process if there are any questions.

“If (voters) don’t complete their ballot, they can stop, exit out of the system and go back later. So as long as you don’t hit the submit, you’re good. And if you’re getting stumbled or stumped or something, have any questions, yes you can call us and we can assist you,” he said.

“With respect to people who maybe want assistance in voting or don’t have access to the internet or their own computers…we have locations set up in both libraries, as well as city hall."

At city hall, he said staff is available to help with any questions people may have.
