The Timmins and District Humane Society shelter is located on Mahoney Drive. Maija Hoggett/TimminsToday

TimminsToday received the following note from Alicia Santamaria, executive director of the Timmins and District Humane Society, regarding a recent donation made to the organization by Goldcorp Canada Ltd./Porcupine Gold Mines:

The Timmins and District Humane Society (TDHS) would like to bring an awareness to the generous donation and kind support received by Goldcorp Canada Ltd./Porcupine Gold Mines and its employees as part of their Christmas in the Community initiative this holiday season.

Andrea McCormack, community liaison coordinator at Goldcorp, indicated in a letter to TDHS that every Christmas, Goldcorp asks its employees to nominate a local organization that they felt deserved some extra support over the holiday season. As a result, this year the Timmins and District Humane Society was the selected recipient of a $5,000 donation from Goldcorp!

We are over-the-moon to have been chosen and will be utilizing these dollars to support local animals in need, including horses, pigs, dogs, cats, bunnies, guinea pigs, rats, birds, and more. (Follow our Facebook page to learn about specific animals we’re currently working with)

Thank you so much, Goldcorp and Goldcorp employees for your ongoing generosity and support. Not only does your donation help us to further our reach when it comes to assisting local animals, but it also makes TDHS volunteers and staff pleased to know that the animal welfare efforts they provide for our wonderful city is something worth supporting.

Thank you again and all the best in 2018!

Alicia Santamaria, executive director, Timmins and District Humane Society
