One new forest fire in the north

As of late Wednesday afternoon, one new forest fire was confirmed in the northeast region.

Kirkland Lake 13, which is approximately eight kilometres southeast of Matachewan, is under control at 0.7 of a hectare.

The fire is one of 13 fires active in the region.

According to a release from Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services, all 13 fires are being observed.

The fire hazard throughout much of the area is low to moderate though the area west of Timmins and south of Smooth Rock Falls, as well as an area northeast of Cochrane along Highway 652, as currently showing a high hazard.
