One dead on Highway 11 after transports collide head-on

Ministry of the Environment called in to investigate leak in tractor trailer hauling dangerous goods

MATHESON – Members of the Matheson Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to the scene of a motor vehicle collision that occurred on Highway 11, Taylor Township, at approximately 9:34 a.m. on January 11, 2016.

The head on collision involved a northbound tractor trailer, and a southbound tractor trailer.

The male driver of the northbound tractor trailer was pronounced dead at the scene.

The male driver of the southbound tractor trailer was transported to a local hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.  

Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) all responded to the scene.

The northbound tractor trailer was hauling dangerous goods and a leak was detected therefore the Ministry of the Environment (MOE) has been called to assist with the investigation.

The OPP Technical Traffic Collision Investigators are also assisting with this ongoing investigation.

Highway 11, ten kilometers south of Val Gagne is closed in both directions and a detour is in place.
