A group of staff from the oncology unit are kicking off the new year with $386,132 reasons to celebrate.

Four nurses and their manager won the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation's (TADHF) 50/50 draw. It was the biggest jackpot so far for the monthly draws that started in September.

The winning group is Joy Cormier, Michelle Foster, Louise Biglow, Sharon Mills, and Lorna Green.

With a manager who has a history of luck being on her side, the nurses encouraged their manager to buy a ticket for the group in early December, according to the hospital foundation.

“I received a call at 11:07 a.m. from the hospital foundation letting me know that I was the winner…I was in awe, I was numb, I couldn’t believe it, I couldn’t wait to share the news with them,” Green said in the foundation's winner announcement.

TADHF executive director Jason Laneville said calling a winner in the building was a "very unique situation."

"Once we let Lorna know her group won, we all went to the oncology department to share the great news," he said.

The foundation even captured the moment they revealed the news to the group.
