As a part of national anti - bullying week, O' Gorman Intermediate challenged their students to speak their mind positively and show the color pink proudly.

As a part of national anti - bullying week, O' Gorman Intermediate challenged their students to speak their mind positively and show the color pink proudly. Students were given a strip of pink fabric and were allowed to personalize it with quotes, logos or hashtags and were encouraged to wear it for the week.

Each month, O'Gorman has a "virtue of the month" with this month being "Prudence" or wisdom. The students were asked to write a poem about bullying. The top picks were on display on the home room doors for a panel of judges to choose what they felt were the best. The school has a spirit point system for each class. At the end of the year, the class with the most spirit points, at the end of the school year will win a day of doing an activity of their choice. The top 5 classes will be awarded points for their poems.

Jackie Harkins of O'Gorman Intermediate says that the student council is taking action as well. " We are going to be looking at a code of ethics in regards to social media. Teasing and that nature can be evident but cyber bullying is where our focus is going to be." " This may go down to the grade 5 and 6 level too. How do we act on Facebook?" Harkins says it's important to think before you write something on there.

Judging took place Thursday afternoon with the following results: ( Class and Title)

1st place - 7-8C Reverse bullying

2nd place - 8B Virtues and grandfather teachings for the bully and the victim

3rd place - 8i Because it Hurts

4th place - 7A My Story

5th place - Empowered class When you choose

Here is the first place poem:

Reverse Bullying

Bullying is not part of life;

Is a lie

I have to put up with bullying.

I am?

a loser? a freak? Dumb?

I am not

Happy, loveable, caring

I am me?

Worthless, ugly, annoying

I’m not

Funny and cheerful

Like you.

I am me.

Words hurt ….    is a lie.

Because what bullies say:

People think it’s true.

Bullying is ok.

Worthless and stupid;

Their words are True.

Bullies say everything bad-

It hurts

Soooooo

Give up

Never

Stand up for what is right!

Cyberbullying

Is better than

Standing up

I am able to cyber-bully and

People think

It is true.

It could be a bad thing that everything is on the internet

That’s why

People get bullied on Facebook

It’s not normal that

People can be nice on the web.

Having bad friends

Is more important than

Being happy

Today’s world supports bullies,

It is foolish to think that

Bullying will stop.

Bullying will continue: if it isn’t REVERSED

Bullying Will Stop!

It is foolish to think that Today’s world

Supports Bullies

Being Happy Is more important than

Having Bad Friends

People can be nice on the Web

It is not normal that People get bullied on Facebook

That’s why it could be a bad thing that everything

Is on the internet

It is true, people think…I am able to to cyber bully…

Standing up

Is better than Cyberbullying: Stand up for what is right!

Never give up

Soooo it hurts

Bullies say everything bad

Their words are true: Worthless and Stupid

Bullying is ok…people think it is true

Because what bullies say: Words Hurt

Is a Lie!

I am me

Like you:

Funny cheerful

I am not: Worthless, ugly, annoying

I am: Happy, Loveable, caring

I am not! A loser, a freak, dumb

I am me

I have to put up with bullying?

Is a lie?

Bullying is not a part of Life!
