The number of people with COVID-19 at Timmins and District Hospital is down compared to yesterday's totals.

The hospital is reporting 23 patients are testing positive for COVID. Four of those people were admitted for a COVID-related reason. There are 58 patients who have been tested or are waiting for the results of their test.

Because the Porcupine Health Unit does not report the number of hospitalizations in its daily reports, the number of people in hospital across the region is not known.

Today, the health unit reported 27 new cases and 36 recoveries. The new cases are underestimated due to changes in who can be tested.

For the new cases, 11 are in Timmins, four are in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, five are in Hearst and Hornepayne, one is in the Kapuskasing area and six are in the James Bay area.

To date, there have been 3,647 confirmed cases in the region. Of those, 2,762 are recovered and 31 people have died. There are 854 known active cases — 523 in Timmins, 107 in the area of Cochrane, Matheson, Iroquois Falls and Smooth Rock Falls, 67 in the Kapuskasking area, 73 in Hearst and Hornepayne, 83 in the James Bay area, and one out of region.
