The Ontario government, through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation is investing in 22 new projects.
Four community development projects are being supported by the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation:
- Town of Smooth Rock Falls is receiving $50,000 to develop a community investment and capacity building plan
- Musjkegowuk Council in Moose Factory is using $29,880 to conduct a feasibility study on establishing a Cree language radio station
- Marten Falls First Nation is receiving $31,950 for a feasibility study on building a shared facility to house community services and small businesses
- Métis Works Projects Corporation is getting $38,250 to complete a five-year economic partnership plan to engage with resource-based companies
Fifteen entrepreneurs are launching new businesses with help from the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund Corporation:
- Detail Media, Marketing and Communications in Timmins is receiving $25,000 to offer marketing services for small businesses
- AC Floor Installation in Kapuskasing is getting $18,054 for a floor installation and cleaning business
- Northern Lotus Yoga Studio in Timmins is using $24,575 to purchase a computer and yoga equipment
- Mobile One Auto Care in Kapuskasing is using $11,200 to establish a mobile car washing and detailing operation
- Snips and Snails Photography in Timmins is getting $11,900 to buy equipment for the new photography business
- 3 Phaze Electric in Timmins is receiving $25,000 to start an electrical contractor business
- Cursor Communications in Timmins is using $24,378 to set up a communications services business
- Cordonnerie Francoeur Shoe Repair in Kapuskasing is receiving $25,000 to start a home-based shoe repair business
- Finishing Touches in Timmins is getting $48,300 for a business offering esthetic services, including paramedical micro-pigmentation
- Dr. Erin Auclair in South Porcupine is receiving $25,000 to offer chiropractic services
- Serendipity of Fabric in Timmins is using $9,840 to launch a business offering items such as custom draperies and bedding
- A.M. Dubé Construction in Hearst is receiving $25,000 to purchase equipment for a home renovation company
- Love Much in Iroquois Falls is getting $25,000 to operate a retail store carrying skating and dance apparel
- Proulx Bookkeeping in Hearst is using $9,600 for a business providing services such as bookkeeping and payroll preparation
- Sherwood General Store in Opasatika is receiving $12,480 to establish a retail store
Three businesses are moving ahead with their expansion projects:
- Walden Equipment is receiving $320,575 to build a new facility in Timmins for its equipment rental and sales operation
- Cache Campground in Timmins is getting $132,650 to expand camping trailer sites and seasonal accommodations
- Horwood Lake Lodge in Timmins is receiving $77,500 to install a solar and thermal energy system and reduce the use of diesel generators.
