Northern College is committed to ensuring the quality of programs and strives for continuous improvement. On Aug. 31, 2017, Northern held a Quality Assurance (QA) In-Service Day at the Timmins Campus, with all campuses joined by video conferencing.

This one-day event kicked-off Northern’s preparation for its 2018 QA audit by the Ontario College Quality Assurance Service (OCQAS). The event aimed at addressing the QA audit process and impact, while providing an opportunity for employees to discuss best practices and explore areas of improvement.

"Northern College applies quality standards through rigorous program evaluation tools and continues to improve its processes and practices college-wide. We are committed to preparing students for the new world that awaits by offering them quality programs," said Dr. Audrey J. Penner, Vice President, Academic and Student Success of Northern College. "We are very excited to kick-off our Quality Assurance Audit Process with dynamic keynote speakers that provided great insights on effective mechanisms for quality assurance.”

The event began with keynote speakers Karen Belfer, Executive Director of OCQAS, and Dr. Keith Hampson, co-founder of Kingston Park Education, addresses topics of QA and digital engagement.

“It was an honour to be invited to present at Northern College’s Quality Assurance Audit Process kick-off event,” said Belfer. “I am looking forward to coming back in 429 days on Nov. 5, 2018, for their site visit, this time as an onlooker and witness to the multiple mechanisms Northern has in place to uphold the quality of their programs for the continuous success of their students and graduates.”

The day progressed with concurrent sessions from other presenters on various aspects of QA, which included quality in working with international students, quality in student services, admissions, finance and student support, quality in preparing for program reviews, quality in use of digital technology, and quality in online learning.
