NEWS RELEASE
NORTHERN COLLEGE
*************************
The Ontario government will introduce legislation to end the strike by academic faculty and send the unresolved dispute to an arbitrator. Northern College appreciates their intervention to introduce back-to-work legislation.

This means classes will resume next week, but the exact date will depend on how quickly the issue is resolved. We ask that all parties in the legislature think of students first and support its speedy passage.

Semester contingency plans are being updated with the expectation that classes will resume in a matter of days. We will be sharing those plans when students are back in class.

Students are being encouraged to make travel arrangements over the weekend to return to their respective campuses in preparation for classes to resume the day after faculty return to work.

“We understand that this is a stressful time for students and that there will be additional stress with the return to class,” said Dr. Fred Gibbons, president and CEO of Northern College. “We are committed to providing additional resources, whether that is advisors, counsellors or tutors so that students have every opportunity to be successful, not only in completing this particular semester but the entire academic year.”

Northern acknowledges that some students have experienced financial hardship during the strike and will we address this matter through the development of a special learner support fund. Further information on the fund will be provided once students return to class.

Northern College would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding during this labour disruption. We look forward to having faculty and students back in the classroom soon.
