A custom fabrication and machining business quietly marked its silver anniversary last year.

In 2019, Norfab Metal and Machine in Porcupine celebrated 25 years in business. This week, the Timmins Chamber of Commerce stopped by to present a member milestone to owner Dan Katic.

Katic and Walter DiTullio started the business in the early '90s, but DiTullio retired about five years ago.

“We actually bought our first building in ‘93, renovated, didn’t get into business until ‘94,” Katic recalled.

With so many mines in their backyard, Katic said Norfab serves the region and does a little bit of work overseas in South America.

“We originally started with the underground track mining stuff, so ore cars, stuff like that to haul the material from one...location to another. And then eventually we got into hydraulic and pneumatic cylinder repair and manufacturing. We got into more of the custom fabrication, custom machining, just really everything to do with mining, anything that mines need and consume we build for them,” he said.

Today the business on Highway 101 east has 22 employees. When they marked 25 years last year, there were three employees that also celebrated 25 years with the company.
