A local charity is helping kids play sports.

In 2021, Sports for Kids has announced it helped 77 children take part in 82 sport opportunities and five equipment opportunities. A total of $26,358 was handed out this year and the organization is aiming to distribute more in 2022.

"We thank the businesses and individuals that have donated to our local charity along with our sports partners who also donated to assist us in helping local children from low-income families," reads a Sports for Kids news release.

"We are proud that 95 cents of every dollar donated goes to a local child to play an organized sport."

The Sports for Kids office at the Archie Dillon Sportsplex opens Nov. 17 for its next round of grant applications.

Applicants can call 705-268-1112 or email [email protected] to make an appointment. Before doing that, applicants have to email their 2020 notice of assessment showing line 15,000 and a pay stub from the month prior for all adults supporting the child. The email must include your name, email and phone number, as well as a completed application for each child between the ages of four and 18 that it applies to. Applications are available here.

For 2022, the Sports for Kids board has increased the amount of cash it will be handing out to $35,000. The income threshold has also been increased by $400. The new gross income for one child is $35,000, it's $39,000 for two children and $44,000 for three children.
