The Porcupine Health Unit is reporting one new COVID-19 recovery today.

The resolved case means there are no known active cases of the virus in the region right now.

To date, there have been 69 confirmed cases in the health unit region. Of those, 61 are recovered and eight people have died.

The health unit is aware of 10,517 tests being done locally, which is an increase of 86 from yesterday's report.

An order requiring mandatory masks or face coverings in indoor public spaces goes into effect Thursday, July 23.

Today's update from the health unit notes face coverings are not recommended for children under the age of two, or wherever one can't be worn safely.

"Once a face covering is in place, children should not touch it, as doing so will increase their risk of contamination. If you believe your child can understand and follow the proper etiquette for wearing a face covering, encourage your child to wear one," it reads.

"Explain the reason for wearing a face-covering and listen to their feelings and concerns. If possible, involve your child in choosing a face covering. Patterns, colours or cartoon characters may be more appealing for them to wear it. Give them time to practice wearing it at home. Introduce a sense of play, pretending to be a doctor or superhero, or practice on stuffed animals. Remember that you are a role model, wear a face covering too."

COVID-19 testing is open to anyone who feels they need to be tested, even if you don't have symptoms. To access testing, call your health care provider or the health unit.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst and Hornepayne.

The PHU COVID-19 hotline is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. It can be reached at 705-267-1181 or 1-800-461-1818.
