WIN was pleased to welcome Nicole Mallette to our October dinner meeting at the Royal Canadian Legion Hall in South Porcupine.

Nicole shared her story and passion about global initiatives to end gender inequality.

Nicole has family roots in Timmins Ontario which include her grandparents, great-grandparents, aunts and cousins. Her father was raised in Timmins and spent most of his life here. Nicole spent many happy times and creating memories in Timmins... her favourite Northern city.

47-year old Nicole Mallette began swimming at a young age. While in her teens, she was one of Canada’s top swimmers in both backstroke and IM events. In recent years, she has been swimming with the Etobicoke Masters Swim Club (1993 to present) and remains competitive within this program. She has competed at the World Masters Championships (2002, 2004, 2008, and 2012), with a best placing of 10th in the World for the 400 IM. In addition to her own Lake Ontario Crossing in 1997, Nicole has been involved as a pacer and manager in many other successful crossings.

In July 2013, Nicole was one of five ladies whom took on the challenge of swimming Lake Ontario (the long way) in support of Plan International's Because I am a Girl initiative. These five ladies set out to make a huge splash this summer raising awareness through their Because Girls Can fundraising initiative. The Women’s Information Network is an organization based in Northern Ontario that seeks to gather together women in a supportive environment where ideas can be shared, new knowledge acquired and business exchanged.

In a social atmosphere, we enhance the importance of communication and education in the development of women as individuals, professionals, entrepreneurs and business managers. To this end, WIN meets regularly to hear speakers share their knowledge and experiences and to allow members to “network”. All women with these interests are invited to attend our meetings.
