Groups or organizations in the Timmins-James Bay region are being asked to apply for the federal government's Canada Summer Jobs program.
The fund is designed to help employers create summer job opportunities for students.
MP Charlie Angus says our region continues to excel at investments in infrastructure, economic development funding and summer job creation.
"Every year we do very well with this program where we are able to give students much needed employment and work experience. These jobs will spread across the entire riding to benefit both our youth who face high unemployment and help our businesses create jobs and grow our economy.”
Eligibility Requirements are:
- between 15 and 30 years of age;
- have been full-time students in the previous academic year and intend to return to school on a full-time basis in the next academic year;
- Canadian citizens, permanent residents or have official refugee protection status under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (foreign students are not eligible); and
- legally entitled to work in Canada, according to relevant provincial/territorial legislation and regulations.

The application period for employers will run from January 4 to February 26, 2016, which will allow students to be hired beginning May 2016.
