Mountjoy Street assault victims held against their will: police

Two from Toronto region face assault, weapons, drug charges as a result

The Timmins Police Service has charged two persons with a number of Criminal Code and Drug Possession offences stemming from an incident that occurred at a Mountjoy Street South residence during the afternoon hours of Monday, Dec. 20.  

Based on the ensuing investigation, the Timmins Police was able to determine that two suspects attended at the residence and held two occupants against their will and proceeded to assault them.

At one point, one of the men held captive managed to escape and seek police assistance.

Both suspects pursued the man who had managed to escape and were subsequently located by the Timmins Police and arrested.

As a result of the investigation, Deven Che, 19 of North York; and Adom Kunkuma, 19, of Toronto have been respectively charged with:
    •    two counts of forcible confinement contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    two counts of assault with a weapon contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    two counts of uttering threats contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    two counts of possession of property obtained by crime contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    unlawfully in a dwelling house contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    two counts of assault contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    robbery with violence contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    possession of imitation weapon for a dangerous purpose contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
    •    possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act

Additionally, Kunkuma is further charged with obstruct police contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada and an additional count of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.

Both men remain in police custody awaiting respective bail hearings slated for today at the Ontario Court of Justice in Timmins to answer to the respective charges laid against them.
