More roads will be getting work done this year.

At this week's Timmins council meeting, $1 million was added to the 2021 paving program. The total contract for Miller Paving Ltd. is now $2.19 million.

"This brings it in line to our yearly budget. We had reduced the paving budget in order to compensate for the Connecting Link project," said Pat Seguin, engineering and public works director.

Connecting Link work is underway on a stretch of Algonquin Boulevard between Theriault and the Mattagami Bridge.

For the work, the city is receiving $3 million from the province, which is the maximum available through the program. Seguin said the city is also receiving $2.5 million in federal gas tax funding.

The increase means an additional three kilometres of roads will be added to the grind and pave schedule. The work is slated to be done between mid-June and Sept. 30.

The roads added to the schedule are:

  • Moneta from Vipond to Spruce
  • Algonquin Boulevard East from Cedar to Spruce
