Moosonee man charged with impaired driving in North Bay

PARRY SOUND - On Sept. 23, 2018 shortly after 5 p.m., a member of the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a possible impaired driver travelling south bound on Highway 17 in North Bay, Ont.

Police located and observed the vehicle wandering all over the road. Police stopped the vehicle and the officer spoke to the driver determining that he had consumed alcohol.  

As a result of the investigation Andrew Sutherland, a 46-year-old male from Moosonee, Ont. was arrested and charged with:

  • Drive motor vehicle while ability impaired - alcohol, contrary to section 253(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Drive motor vehicle - over 80 mgs. of blood alcohol, contrary to section 253(1)(b) of the CC,
  • Fail to comply with probation order, contrary to the CC, 2 counts,
  • Theft over $5,000 of a motor vehicle, contrary to the CC, and
  • Drive motor vehicle - no licence, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act (HTA). 

The driver was released on a Promise to Appear and is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Parry Sound, Ont. on Oct. 10, 2018.  

The OPP reminds motorists that there is no safe amount of drug or alcohol consumption when driving. Anyone who suspects a driver that is driving while impaired is urged to call police by dialing 9-1-1 immediately.
