The community is being invited to honour long-standing municipal politician and founding member of the Museum and Economic Development Corporation, in the unveiling of the Michael J.J. Doody Centre of Excellence this Saturday, May 25 at 11 a.m.

“The City of Timmins recognizes the great fortune we’ve had that Michael chose to make our community his home,” said Mayor George Pirie. “Over the years, he has brought much knowledge and expertise to every table he chose to sit at. I couldn’t be happier with this decision made by previous Council to honour Michael with this permanent dedication to his commitment and community pride.”

M. Doody came to Timmins in 1959 for a job at the radio station, and has been an iconic voice and pro-active member of our community ever since. He is one of the longest-serving members of council and also served as Mayor from 1977 to 1980.

“As a former member of the Timmins media and current public servant, I have always held M. Doody in extremely high esteem,” said City of Timmins Communications Coordinator Heather Duhn. “Not only does he want the best for the community he chose to call home, he has dedicated his life to taking action and making change, while showing genuine care for everyone who crosses his path…a true and shining example in the city with a heart of gold.”

As its final act on Nov. 13, 2018 the previous Council voted in favour of renaming the building that houses the Timmins Museum: National Exhibition Centre and the Timmins Economic Development Corporation the Michael J.J. Doody Centre for Excellence. M. Doody remains dedicated to some committees near and dear to his heart, and with his newfound free time, he and his wife Charlene are planning a little more travel in order to spend time with their five grandchildren.

Please join us in thanking and celebrating M. Doody’s steadfast commitment to our community!
