The mayor of Timmins has released a statement following a fire Saturday at a downtown apartment building.

Officials have said more than 100 residents were displaced by the fire at the historic Empire Complex on the corner of Spruce Street and Algonquin Boulevard.

Michelle Boileau released the following statement Saturday night:

On behalf of Timmins City Council, I want to extend my deepest sympathies to the residents of the Empire Complex who have lost their homes and their cherished possessions as a result of this devastating fire.

The Empire Complex, a significant part of our city's heritage, was not just a building but a home to many individuals and families within our community. To those who have been displaced, please know that the City of Timmins stands with you during this difficult time. We are committed to providing the support necessary to help you rebuild and recover.

I want to express my deepest gratitude to all the emergency response teams, including our local firefighters, paramedics, and partners, who responded to the scene. Your dedication, professionalism, and selflessness in the face of adversity are commendable, and we are immensely grateful for your efforts.

The residents of Timmins have always shown their strength and unity in challenging times. Let us extend a helping hand to our neighbours in need and demonstrate the resilience and strength that defines our city.

Once again, on behalf of the City of Timmins, I extend my deepest sympathies to all those impacted by the fire at the Empire Complex.
