Rosewood Ave's Sabrina and Dave Sauve' recently released their debut single and a music video.

A husband and wife duo is taking a chance on a country music career.

After music brought them together as teenagers, Sabrina and Dave Sauve's debut single as Rosewood Ave is, fittingly, a love song.

“The story of Fool for Love is about taking a chance on love, which basically is what we did because we didn’t just start dating when we met,” he said.

“It just spoke to us, it was just perfect. It’s like everything aligned with that song."

The Matheson duo has been performing together for years.

When he moved in across the avenue from her in high school, a friend sent Sabrina a clip of Dave playing the guitar over MSN.

“I added him as a friend and we met like that. We were best friends for about a year and then we started dating and I would say within in the month we started doing gigs together," recalled Sabrina.

In 2019, two years after they were married, they decided to seriously pursue music together.

Late that year, they joined Willow Sound Records. Amid the pandemic, they recorded and released Rosewood Ave's debut song and a music video.

As everyone's lives abruptly changed last year, COVID-19 helped broaden the newly-named duo's fan base.

When live music venues closed and gigs were cancelled, Sabrina said they were feeling down. At that point, there weren't a lot of people doing livestreams and they decided to hold one.

“At the time … our setup was a duct tape cell phone to a music stand and we’re like ‘I hope people log in, I hope it works’ and we had lots of people and so we decided to do a weekly thing every Saturday night,” she said, adding they performed 24 weeks in a row.

“It just grew and grew, at times we had 500 people watching at the same time from all over the world, which was really neat. That’s what kick started it for us, was these live streams."

Because of the pandemic restrictions, the recording process — for their song and music video — has been done virtually.

They had to learn about directing and filmed the video in their living room. It also includes old clips of the couple through the years.

Over the years, they've performed a lot of different genres of music. Both grew up with country music and in the last couple of years, Dave said it's grown on them and something they relate to, especially for songwriting.

“When you say three chords and the truth, it’s something you can really take and make it personal and make it your own. We thought country was just the way to go,” he said.

Up next for Rosewood Ave, they said another single is on the way in the spring.

“I think the ultimate goal for us is to eventually be doing this fulltime, be releasing music as much as we can. Hopefully be playing out live when we can and eventually go down to Nashville,” he said.

“We’re being patient and I think that’s the key because there’s a lot of steps, there’s a lot of work and I think it’s to be patient and to do one thing at a time, one step at a time."

For now, they are doing live streams again. Keep an eye on their Facebook page for performance information.
