Timmins and District Hospital Foundation (TADHF) staff had a little fun with the February 50/50 winner, who's previously picked up a smaller win in the monthly draw.
When staff called Matchewan's Bart Ruck, instead of telling him right away that he'd won $129,135, they said they were doing an audit on last year's prizing as he'd picked up $500 in a secondary draw in May 2023.
"We talked about why he participated in our draw and said he thought it was a great cause and there was a possibility to win some big money. He also mentioned that living in a smaller community, Timmins and District Hospital was the district hospital that he would need to attend from time to time," reads the TADHF announcement.
"When we changed the subject and told him he was actually the winner of February’s jackpot his response was ... 'Get out, get outta here ... No way!' He told a few friends after our initial call and the good news spread like wildfire. His phone was 'blowing up' with well wishes!"
