Man facing charges following alleged assault in service vehicle

On July 6, 2017, Timmins Police officers responded to a call regarding alleged threats being made against the driver of a local service vehicle. Information received indicated that a client began making threatening comments to the driver of the vehicle, at which point the driver called 911.

Officers located the vehicle in the area of Algonquin Boulevard and Brunette Road, and initiated a traffic stop. An assault with a weapon on the driver is reported to have taken place. Once officers approached the vehicle, the driver was able to flee to safety.

When asked to comply with officers’ demands as they attempted to affect an arrest, the accused allegedly refused to follow police requests and continued to display aggression and resistance toward officers.

Officers were able to safely gain control of the individual using a Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW). He was placed under arrest and transported to the Timmins Police Service.

The victim in this incident suffered only minor injuries. As a result of the incident, Kevin Wheesk, 37, of Timmins faces charges of Uttering Threats, Assault with a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose, Resist Peace Officer, and Possession of a Schedule I Substance.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing scheduled for today, July 7, 2017.
