Man allegedly disrupts arrest of another. Multiple charges ensue

MOOSONEE – On Dec. 6, 2016 at 8:22 pm, members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Moosonee were dispatched to a disturbance in the area of First Street and Ferguson Road in Moosonee. 

When the OPP arrived they removed the suspect who was causing a disturbance from the area. While in the process of removing the suspect, a second intoxicated male began causing a disturbance by shouting and swearing in the public place.

Police advised the second male that he was under arrest for causing a disturbance and began affecting the arrest. The male resisted and in the process assaulted a police officer.

As a result of the investigation, Sydney Goodwin, 44 years of age from Moosonee was charged with;

  • Causing a Disturbance, contrary to section 175(1)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC)
  • Assaulting a Peace Officer, contrary to section 270(1)(a) of the CC
  • Resisting a Peace Officer, contrary to section 129(a) of the CC

The accused was held pending a bail hearing.
