The Timmins Police Service has charged a local man with a number of Criminal Code offences stemming from a disturbance at the Timmins and District Hospital which occurred during the morning hours of Tuesday, Aug. 13.

Responding Timmins Police Service officers attempted to convince a local man to leave the area as he had attended the hospital but then declined any medical treatment. At one point it is alleged that the man became quite agitated and began yelling and creating a disturbance.

Additional attempts to quell the situation were not successful and it is further alleged that the man proceeded to strike one of the responding Timmins Police Service officers. The ensuing arrest was undertaken while the man allegedly uttered threats to harm both Timmins Police Service officers.

As a result of the disturbance, Dennis Iahtail, 48, of Timmins, has been charged with:

  • Assault a peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Cause a disturbance contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada
  • Two counts of utter threats contrary to the Criminal Code of Canada

The man remains in police custody awaiting a bail hearing slated for this morning at Provincial Court in Timmins to answer to the charges laid against him.
