The Porcupine Health Unit is making it easy to get your flu shot this year.
In Timmins, the Health Unit will be offering daily flu clinics weekday afternoons in November from 1-5 and every Saturday morning from 9-12.
Nathalie Roy, Public Health Nurse at the Porcupine Health Unit says, “Many people think of influenza as a harmless illness, but it can lead to serious complications and can affect anyone. So on your drive home from work and when running around doing errands, drop in to one of our clinics.”
New this year, we are offering a nasal mist vaccine for children between the ages of 2-17.
Roy says “The recommendations for children receiving influenza vaccine in Ontario have changed. It is now recommended that children aged 2-17 receive a vaccine that contains two Influenza A strains and two Influenza B strains. The added B strain assures better protection in our children.”
She adds that flu clinics will kick off this season in South Porcupine on Wednesday, October 28, and Thursday, October 29.
The influenza vaccine is also available through health care providers and local pharmacies.
Roy encourages everyone to get vaccinated.
“The best way to protect yourself, your family and the community is to get vaccinated every year,” she says. “The truth is that, for some people, the flu can lead to serious and long-lasting complications.”
The Porcupine Health Unit is located in Northeastern Ontario, serving the entire Cochrane District and Hornepayne, in Algoma District.
The main office is located in Timmins, Ontario, with branch offices in Cochrane, Hearst, Hornepayne, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Matheson, Moosonee and Smooth Rock Falls.
