Is learning something new one of your New Year's resolutions?

Programs at the Timmins Museum: National Exhibition Centre this week can help you achieve the goal early in 2018. 

Here are some of the events that are on at the museum, as well as other locations in the city this week: 

Woolly Paintings

Tuesday, Jan. 2, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Timmins Museum: National Exhibition Centre, 325 Second Ave.

Discover needle felting and create your own masterpiece out of wool. The drop-in program is for ages six and up. The cost is $5 plus HST.

Tim Hortons Holiday Skates

Jan. 2 – Jan. 4

Local restaurant owners are sponsoring free skates once again this holiday season, with the public skating being offered at rinks across the city. Find a location and time here.

Free swimming

Jan. 2 – Jan. 5

Archie Dillon Sportsplex

Thanks to local companies, there are free swims being offered during the holiday break. Take a dip for free until Jan. 5. Check out the full schedule here.

Popcorn and a Movie

Jan. 3 and 4, 2 p.m.

Timmins Public Library, 320 Second Ave.

Catch a movie for free! Wednesday the film is Smurfs the Lost Village, Thursday The Emoji Movie will be shown.

Screen Printing Workshop

Jan. 3 and 4, 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.

Timmins Museum: National Exhibition Centre, 325 Second Ave.

A two-day workshop to explore screen printing workshop for kids ages 12 and up. Participants design their own screen and make the prints on paper and fabric. The supplies are provided, but you can bring an item to print on. The cost is $15 plus HST and pre-registration is required. The museum can be reached at 705-360-2617.

Dig It Up!

Friday, Jan. 5, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

Timmins Museum: National Exhibition Centre, 325 Second Ave.

Learn about dinosaurs and other creatures by doing a mini excavation. The program is for ages six and up. The cost is $5 plus HST, no registration is required.

Makey Makey 

Jan. 5, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

Timmins Public Library, 320 Second Ave.

The drop-in Makey Makey station is free to stop by and get creative. 

Crafty Afternoon

Saturday, Jan. 6, 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.

C.M. Shields Centennial Library, 99 Bloor Ave. South Porcupine

Bring your current knit, crochet, embroidery or anything else you may be working on to the library and spend the afternoon with like-minded individuals. For information, call 705-360-2623 ext. 8590.
