Long weekend traffic initiative results in 119 charges

Between Aug. 30 and Sept. 2, 2019, members of the Kirkland Lake Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police were out on patrol conducting traffic enforcement on our roads, waterways and trails. 

A total of 119 charges were laid in the Kirkland Lake Detachment area during this past weekend's traffic initiative, some of the charges include:   

  • Four distracted driving charges
  • 72 speeding charges
  • Two moving violations
  • 11 other Highway Traffic Act charges
  • Eight charges under the Liquor Licence Act
  • 12 Compulsory Automobile Act charges
  • One charges under other Provincial Statutes
  • One Small Vessel Regulation charge
  • Four drug offences
  • Two Criminal Code driving charges
  • One Warn Range Suspension
  • One impaired driving charge
