Two beloved and longtime educators from Roland Michener Secondary School in South Porcupine have died while on vacation in the resort town of Tulum, Mexico, according to a Mexican news source, Riviera Maya News.

Susan Drummond, 54, was a guidance counsellor, who also taught English and drama.

Riviera Maya News says Drummond and her husband, Steve Eley, 65, a retired English teacher, were swimming near their hotel, when Drummond experienced cramping. Eley saw the distress and tried to help her, but unfortunately both were overcome by strong waves and drowned, says the report.

A Facebook post from RMSS Student Body Updates reads:

"R.I.P. Gone but never forgotten. Thank you for all the hard work and dedication you have put into the school and every individual student. You were the heart and soul of the school and you will always be missed. Once a rebel, always a rebel!"

We will update this story throughout the day.
