Local COVID vaccine clinics set for people 75 years and up

COVID-19 vaccination clinic dates have been set for people 75 years and up in the Timmins area.

Today, the Porcupine Health Unit announced eight dates for people born in 1946 or earlier.  The clinics are open to people in the locations indicated and eligible individuals in smaller outlying communities.

The clinics are being held:

Tuesday, March 30

  • Hornepayne Community Arena
  • Iroquois Falls Community Centre 

Saturday, April 3

  • Kapuskasing Sports Palace 

Monday, April 5

  • Mountjoy Arena, Timmins 

Tuesday, April 6

  • Smooth Rock Falls Community Centre 

Wednesday, April 7

  • Cochrane Pavilion
  • Claude Larose Arena, Hearst 

Friday, April 9

  • Matheson Community Arena

Appointments are required for all clinics and walk-ins will not be accepted.

People who qualify for one of the clinics can book an appointment online here or call 1-800-461-1818.

For people who do get an appointment for the vaccination, the health unit has a few tips. They are:

  • Do not arrive early. People will not be allowed into the clinic before their appointment time.
  • Do not gather outside.
  • Bring a mask and your health card.

To date, there have been 350 confirmed cases of the virus in the region. Of those, 319 are recovered and 25 people have died. There are six known active cases — five in Timmins and one in the Hearst, Hornepayne area.

There have been two confirmed variants of concern in Timmins. Both cases are the South African (B.1.351) strain. The cases are resolved.

There are COVID-19 assessment centres in Timmins, Cochrane, Iroquois Falls, Kapuskasing, Smooth Rock Falls, Hearst, and Hornepayne.
