The City has received a request to help spread the word on World Autism Awareness Day by joining other municipalities in going blue on Sunday, Apr. 2. The McIntyre headframe will be matching other landmarks such as the CN Tower, Niagara Falls and the Eiffel Tower.
“It takes a village to raise a child on the autism spectrum,” said mother, educational assistant supporting children with special needs, and Autism Ontario volunteer Christina Daguerre in a request letter to City Hall. “As a parent of a child on the spectrum who benefits locally from services from NEOFACS, CTC and the school board, as well as provincially from various activities, webinars and workshops hosted by Autism Ontario, I would like to propose that the city join various other municipalities in lighting up blue...I propose we light up the iconic headframe behind the Mac blue to show support for autism. It would allow parents to realize that a whole city stands behind them in raising and supporting their children.”
In addition to the blue lights on the headframe, a proclamation and flag raise are being hosted at City Hall on Monday, Apr. 3 at 9:30 a.m. Residents are invited to come and show their support.
