Gary Scripnick, of Timmins, will join the North East Local Health Integration Network (LHIN) Board of Directors at its meeting on March 30.
His appointment by an Order-In-Council brings the Board to its full complement of nine directors.
Scripnick has significant governance experience and community involvement. He was a Councillor for the City of Timmins for many years and has chaired several boards including the Porcupine Health Unit, the Cochrane District Social Services Administration Board (DSSAB), the Housing Service Corporation, and the Northern Ontario Service Deliverers Association (NOSDA).
“We warmly welcome Gary to the North East LHIN Board of Directors,” said Board Chair Danielle Bélanger-Corbin. “With Gary’s appointment, we now have a full complement of nine board members and we look forward to having him share his unique perspective on issues facing Northeastern Ontario. He brings strong governance experience to the table and that will benefit the people of our region, especially as we embark upon a path of significant transformation in health care.”
The self-employed businessman is a former Rotary Club member and past-president. He has been a board member of the Timmins and District Hospital, the Northern Advisory Council for the Northern Ontario Growth Plan, the Timmins Economic Development Corporation, Timmins Chamber of Commerce, and Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities.
Scripnick, fluently bilingual, holds both a Bachelor of Science degree from Laurentian University and a Bachelor of Education degree from Lakehead University.
“I look forward to working with the North East LHIN's board in advancing the objectives of the new North East LHIN strategic plan for 2016-2019, and helping to build a more integrated experience to health care that puts patients first," said Scripnick.

- LHIN Directors are appointed by Order-In-Council for a term of up to three years, subject to a two-term maximum. The Board of Directors is accountable, through the Chair, to the Minister of Health and Long-Term Care for the LHIN’s use of public funds and for its results in terms of goals and performance of the local health system.
- The North East LHIN Board includes Danielle Bélanger-Corbin, Chair; Rick Cooper, Vice-Chair; as well as Board Directors Dr. Colin Germond, Santina Marasco, Dawn Madahbee, Denis Bérubé, Toni Nanne-Little, John Febbraro, and now Gary Scripnick.
- The North East LHIN is responsible for planning, coordinating and funding about 150 health service providers in Northeastern Ontario including hospitals, long-term care homes, mental health and addiction organizations, community support services, community health centres, and the North East Community Care Access Centre (CCAC). It oversees $1.4 billion in local health care investments on behalf of the 565,000 residents of Northeastern Ontario.
