Ontario's Solicitor General Sylvia Jones shared this letter written to Timmins Mayor George Pirie.

I would like to extend my thanks on behalf of the Ontario government to you and the residents of the City of Timmins for hosting evacuees as we experience a very challenging fire season.

While the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry have firefighting crews working diligently on the frontlines, our first priority is always to ensure that communities at threat of fire or smoke damage have safe places to go when evacuations are necessary.

Your willingness to assist by welcoming evacuees to ensure they have a safe place to stay while their home community is at risk demonstrates the generosity and compassion Ontarians are known for. We appreciate your assistance as we move people out of harm's way and ensure they are safely housed during this difficult time.

I want to assure you that the Ontario government and the Federal government are working together to ensure you have the necessary support and resources to safely house and support evacuees.

Thank you for working with us to safely house our northern neighbours at this critical time.

Sincerely,

Sylvia Jones
Solicitor General
