Work to replace Kraft Creek Bridge should start this spring.

At the Timmins council meeting next week, staff are recommending that Miller Paving Limited be awarded the project.

According to the staff report, a 2012 structural review determined that the bridge on Airport Road just north of Laforest Road should be replaced.

If approved, the construction is expected to start in the spring and be completed in the fall. While work is being done, the bridge would be closed and traffic rerouted to Laforest Road.

Staff has budgeted $4.5 million plus HST for the project in 2018. Three companies bid for the project, with Miller Paving’s being the lowest at $3.8 million plus HST.

The city was approved for funding for the work in 2016 through the Small Communities Fund, which has equal contributions (33.3 per cent each) from the municipal, provincial and federal governments. The money received through the grant must be spent by Dec. 31, 2020.

The Timmins City council meeting is Feb. 20 in council chambers at City Hall. It starts at 6 p.m.
