On April 10, at 10 a.m., St. Mary’s Gardens Seniors Speakers Series will provide information on medical assistance in dying, hospice and palliative care.

“With the changes to legislation, many people would like more information surrounding the rules and their rights around medical assistance in dying,” said Dawna Carrier, community relations coordinator at St. Mary’s Gardens, “this session will provide information and allow seniors to have their questions answered.”

Lia Holmes and Lia Fontana, from the Timmins and District Hospital, will discuss the legislated components and general processes around medical assistance in dying, and tell where it is offered.

They will also speak about the palliative care options at the hospital and in the community, and the type of care available at the Timmins Hospice Centre.

Seniors, family members, and caregivers are invited to attend. Admission is free. Snacks and refreshments will be provided. Seating is limited.

People wishing to attend can RSVP to Dawna Carrier, St. Mary’s Gardens community relations coordinator, at [email protected] or 705-267-5000, ext. 8006.

St. Mary’s Gardens is located on Pine Street North across from the 101 Mall.

St. Mary’s Gardens will feature different speakers every three to four weeks, covering a variety of topics from financial and estate planning to fraud prevention and health.
