Northern College’s Winter Scholarship, Bursary and Awards (SBA) Ceremonies celebrated the accomplishments of students at Northern College’s Timmins, Kirkland Lake and Haileybury campuses, issuing over $950,000 to deserving students.

Three times a year, Northern College hosts these award ceremonies to help better support students as they undertake their studies. This year’s Winter SBA ceremonies recognized the efforts and accomplishments of 884 students.

“This is a celebration of our students and their successes,” stated Mitch Dumas, Northern College President and CEO. “Academic excellence is something that we discuss often at Northern, and three times a year we get to reward it directly and remind our students that their efforts are being noticed, and most importantly, being rewarded.”

Awards were issued to 884 Northern College students, with 489 issued at the Timmins Campus, 27 at the Moosonee Campus, 157 at the Kirkland Lake Campus and 211 at the Haileybury Campus.

“Our SBA ceremonies are such a rewarding experience for us,” stated Nicole Gingras, External Relations Officer for Northern College. “A day like this is the culmination of so much hard work from everyone involved, including our students.”

“Fundamentally, this is why we’re here: to watch our students succeed, and celebrate those successes,” added Gingras.

Each year Northern College strives to increase the supports accessible to students as they pursue their studies and the Winter 2024 SBA ceremony was no exception, issuing almost 200,000 dollars more in scholarships, bursaries and awards than last year.

“We know that the pressures that students are facing are higher than ever these days,” stated Susan Hunter, Chief Cultural Officer for Northern College. “We’ve done our best to adjust our supports in acknowledgement of the ever-increasing cost of living. We know that undertaking studies is a full-time job and any effort we can make to ease the financial strain is one we’re happy to make.”

Northern College is proud to support its students and is able to do so through the kind generosity of local, regional and provincial donors who are keen to support this next generation of highly skilled working professionals.
