MOOSONEE - On May 8, 2013, members of the James Bay Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a report of a human skull found near the shore of James Bay at a location known as East Point.

East Point is located approximately 75 miles north east of the Town of Moosonee at the north end of Hannah Bay.

The OPP North East Region Crime Unit has been continuing the investigation with assistance from the OPP Forensic Identification Services (FIS), the Eeyou Eenou Police Force, and a forensic anthropologist from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services (MCSCS) Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OFPS) in Toronto.

As a result of an extensive forensic examination, the remains have been positively identified as Peter HESTER of Moose Factory.

He was 32 years old when he was reported missing on August 24, 1979 while traveling by canoe from the James Bay coast to Moosonee.

At this time, the death is deemed not suspicious and no foul play is suspected.
