Carol Hughes comments after election sign incident in Kapuskasing

ELLIOT LAKE – New Democrat candidate Carol Hughes has fired a member of her election team after learning that a Conservative Party election sign had been tampered with.

“I hold my staff to a high standard. These kinds of actions are completely unacceptable. I will not tolerate this kind of behaviour” said Hughes. “I have taken the initiative to fire this individual from my election campaign team, effective immediately.”

“I understand that elections can produce over-zealous supporters from all political Parties, but that does not excuse this kind of behaviour. I would expect nothing less from any of the candidates in this election.”

Carol Hughes is the New Democrat candidate running for re-election in Algoma – Manitoulin – Kapuskasing.

Conservative candidate statement on election sign tampering

KAPUSKASING, ON - Earlier today, our campaign team was notified of sign tampering by a senior staffer on the Carol Hughes campaign.

“Our team has worked very hard to fundraise, purchase and erect signs across the vast riding of Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing,” said André Robichaud.

“Evidence of sign tampering in all areas of the region has kept our election sign team very busy throughout the campaign. We condemn in the strongest possible terms the destruction of these lawn signs. We encourage everyone to get involved in the democratic process in a constructive way, not by damaging signs, but by participating on a local campaign,” added Robichaud.

“With four days remaining in the election, our team will continue to travel and meet with people across the riding to share our low-tax, balanced budget plan. We are running a positive campaign that is focused on protecting the economy, your money and your job,” concluded Robichaud.
