KAPUSKASING – Is your home likely to attract a potential burglar? In light of the annual Crime Prevention Week, the James Bay Detachments of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) would like to remind home owners to take precautionary measures to safeguard their homes.
The following tips will help protect your property:
- Allow a clear view of all windows and doors
- Keep visible interior and exterior lighting that give the impression you are home
- Use a deadbolt with a least a one-inch throw on all exterior doors
- Place a hockey stick or a wooden dowel in the bottom track of a sliding door
- Lock the garage doors
- Make arrangements to have your lawn cut or your snow shoveled when you are away
