Hospital 50/50 brings in total of $6 million in first year

A variety of equipment has been purchased with the foundation's share of the cash

While hospital foundation staff were confident a monthly 50/50 draw would be popular, its success has surpassed expectations.

Since the Timmins and District Hospital Foundation (TADHF) 50/50 launched in September 2020, $6 million has been raised — $3 million for the hospital foundation and $3 million in prizing.

"To be quite honest, iI was very confident that the north would support our cause, however, I would be lying if I thought we would have raised over $6 million," said Jason Laneville, TADHF executive director.

"With these funds we are already making a difference in improving healthcare for northerners."

To date, the draw has helped the foundation buy:

  • a transfusion medicine refrigerator
  • gastroscope
  • stretchers
  • cautery machine
  • tonopen
  • steam sterilizers
  • transfer carriages
  • loading cars
  • medfusion pumps
  • infant radiant warmer
  • Olympic smart scale
  • crash carts
  • Bili blankets
  • vital signs monitor
  • 10 mm and 5 mm surgical scopes
  • medication carts
  • small bone power tools
  • electrocardiogram machines
  • stress test systems
  • ventilators
  • simulation lab equipment and constructions
  • defibrillators
  • hospital-wide replacement of the nurse call bell system, which is being completed this fall

"We could not have asked for a better outcome. Each month our community joined together to celebrate with our winner and enabled our hospital to purchase much-needed equipment," said Kate Fyfe, hospital president and CEO, in a news release.

"It has been so rewarding to see how our 50/50 has given back to our winners and hour hospital. Truly a game changer. The funds raised and the excitement each month has breathed new life into our capital equipment purchasing program and given us all something to celebrate during this difficult year.

The foundation is continuing the fundraiser moving forward.
