From above-zero temperatures yesterday to a sudden drop in the mercury, ice pellets and snow this morning — it's been a wild 24 hours weather-wise in Timmins.
The winter storm taking hold of the city is impacting travel, and that means cancellations. A winter storm for the area remains in effect and the City of Timmins has declared a significant weather event, which means public works is expecting a delay in plowing some streets, and most city sidewalks.
"We are asking residents to avoid driving if at all possible for their own safety during this event. We also remind residents not to block or plug sidewalks when clearing their own driveways," reads the city notice.
Closures

- City of Timmins - All municipal arenas and the Archie Dillon Sportsplex pool are closed for the rest of the day. All programming and activities at the pool and arenas are cancelled.
- Canada Post - A red delivery service alert has been issued. It means delivery is suspended for the rest of the day.
- Signature Auto Sales, 916 Algonquin Blvd. E., is closed today.
- Alzheimer Society offices closed and day programs cancelled in Timmins and Kapuskasing.
- A Second Time Around downtown Timmins is closed.
- Timmins Employment Options' office at 330 Second Ave. is closed. Staff are working from home.
- College Boreal's Timmins campus and employment services are closed.
- Northern College - All four Northern College campuses, including the Moosonee daycare, are under a limited closure. While staff and students can go to the campus, those who can work from home are expected to do so. All classes should be happening, but will be done via Zoom.
- Timmins Seniors Centre is closed.
- Lemongrass in downtown Timmins is closed
- School buses - all buses in the area are cancelled today
