The City of Timmins paid just over $300,000 in salaries and expenses for council in 2022.

Each year municipalities are required to reveal how much council members were paid in salary and expenses.

The 2022 remuneration report is on the agenda for tonight's (March 21) council meeting. It includes the amounts paid out to the last council and the new council elected in October 2022.

For 2022, council members received $283,660.40 in remuneration and $22,555.78 in expenses. Altogether, $306,216.18 was paid out. That's $6,384.9 more than 2021, when the total was $299,831.28. It is still less than the pre-pandemic levels. In 2019, the total cost for council salaries and expenses was $351,407.88.

Kristin Murray topped the 2022 remuneration list. Elected as a Ward 5 councillor in 2018 and again in 2022, she was appointed as mayor in August after George Pirie vacated the role when he was elected as Timmins MPP.

The ask was for the staff report to compare the salary with other cities in the north as well as municipalities of similar size. It was never brought back to council.
