The City of Timmins paid just under $300,000 in salaries and expenses for council in 2021.

Each year municipalities are required to reveal how much council members were paid in salary and expenses.

The 2021 remuneration report is on the agenda for tomorrow's council meeting.

For 2021, council members received $293,679.97 in remuneration and $6,151 in expenses. Altogether, $299,831.28 was paid out. That's $31,830.68 less than 2021, when the total was $331,661.96. Prior to the pandemic in 2019, the total cost for council salaries and expenses was $351,407.88.

He received a total of $104,439.79, which includes remuneration for the mayor's position and committees as well as expenses.

Pirie received $96,362.45 in mayor's remuneration — a $2,046 decrease from 2020 — and $1,058.64 in expenses, for a total of $97,421.09. Overall, his payout in 2021 was $4,364.49 less than the year prior. For committee work, he received $7,018.70 for the Cochrane District Social Services Administration Board (CDSSAB).

Ahead of this year's municipal election, council is expected to review the mayor's salary.

In late 2021, Marks called for the review to be presented to council in the first quarter of this year. A report has not been brought to council yet.

The review wouldn't affect the current sitting council and is for whoever wins the seat in the Oct. 24, 2022 election. The report is expected to compare the mayor's salary with other cities in the north as well as municipalities of similar size.
