Here's how much council members took home last year

More than $330K was paid out in salaries and expenses for council members, which is a drop from the year prior

The City of Timmins paid out more than $330,000  in salaries and expenses for council in 2020.

Each year municipalities are required to reveal how much council members were paid in salary and expenses.

A remuneration report is on the agenda for the March 23 council meeting.

For 2020, council members received $297,277.48 in salaries and $34,384.48 in expenses. Altogether, $331,661.96 was paid out. That's $19,745 less than 2019, when the total was $351,407.88.

Mayor George Pirie topped the list. 

He received $98,409.34 in remuneration — a $4,849 increase from 2019 — and $3,376.24 in expenses, for a total of $101,785.58. Overall, his payout in 2020 was $8,855 less than the year prior.

The salary for councillors is $25,184.03, which is $1,223.85 more than the previous year.

The 2020 expenses paid to each council member were:

  • Mickey Auger - $5,503.68, for a total of $30,687.71 including remuneration
  • Michelle Boileau - $2,334.49, for a total of $27,518.54 including remuneration
  • Joe Campbell - $5,521.94, for a total of $30,705.97 including remuneration
  • John Curley - $4,145.35, for a total of $29,329.38 including remuneration
  • Andrew Marks - $4,422.31, for a total of $29,606.34 including remuneration
  • Kristin Murray - $919.47, for a total of $26,103.50 including remuneration
  • Rock Whissell - $5,453.7, for a total of $30,637.73 including remuneration

Noella Rinaldo, who resigned as a councillor after taking a job with the Timmins Economic Development Corporation, was paid $17,063.13 in salary last year and received $2,707.30 in expenses. Coun. Corey Robin, who was appointed to replace Rinaldo, received $5,516.80 in salary and no expenses.

The report also breaks down the expenses paid to members of different boards and committees, such as the Police Services board, Cochrane Social Services Administration Board, Porcupine Health Unit, Mattagami Region Conservation Authority.

The Ontario Sunshine List was released last week.

At the City of Timmins, which includes salaries for municipal staff, Timmins Police and Timmins Firefighters, 145 people are on the list of public sector employees making more than $100,000 in 2020. That's an increase of 13 from 2019, when 132 people made the list. The breakdown for the Timmins area is available here.
