With the province opening up booster shots to people 18 years and up next week, the local health unit is calling for patience.

This afternoon, Premier Doug Ford announced accelerated boosters for people 18 years and older (born 2003 or earlier) on Monday, Dec. 20. The interval between second doses and third doses has been shortened to three months from the previous six-month interval.

In a Facebook post this evening, the Porcupine Health Unit asked for people to be patient and wait until Monday to book a booster appointment.

"The health unit is committed to making sure that everyone who is eligible and wants to get their booster dose will get it. We are currently working with community partners and facilities to address the increased demand," reads the post.

The Porcupine Health Unit does not use the provincial booking system. People eligible for a vaccine can book online here.
