Wednesday, Nov. 14 was Take Our Kids to Work Day. This career exploration activity provides an opportunity to Grade 9 students from across the country to spend a day in the workplace and begin conversations about career options and pathways.

District School Board Ontario North East's (DSB1) Student Success department piloted an on-site career exploration event for a group of students from Timmins High and Vocational School, Roland Michener Secondary School, Cochrane High School and Iroquois Falls Secondary School. Over 50 students participated in this first Take Our Kids to Work Day Exploration Event.

Participating students had an opportunity to learn about various careers and paths to those careers by visiting local workplaces and businesses. Students had the opportunity to ask questions, learn more about each organization’s work, supporting their future career and pathway planning.

“We are proud to have offered this opportunity to our students this year. This take on the event was really successful and we hope to grow it in future years. Our students are grateful for the local organizations who took the time to share various career and pathway options with them,” said Lisa Yee, Student Success Administrator.

District School Board Ontario North East would like to thank the following employers and organizations for welcoming our students into their workplaces:

  • Employment Options
  • Paul Ayotte Insurance Brokers
  • Girones Lawyers
  • Timmins City Hall
  • Halotherapy Salt and Spas
  • Timmins Police Station
